ABOUT THE SURF CAMP

Rogério Ribeiro Grem - Head Surf Coach

Rogério is a Brazilian free surfer, skateboard and longboard competitor, and overall extreme sports enthusiast. With over 15 years of experience teaching hundreds of people all over the world how to control their bodies and their boards in the surf, he continuously studies, experiments with and creates innovative methods that help surfers like you perform at their peak.
His certifications and accreditations include:
- certified professional surf instructor (CREF 005176-P/BA) by the Brazilian Physical Education Regional Council
- International Surfing Association (ISA) and Confederação Brasileira de Surf ( CBS) Level 1 and Level 2 Surf Coach and Instructor

Sheena Campbell - Assistant Surf Coach

Sheena is a Canadian free surfer, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu purple belt instructor and competitor, and former high school physics teacher, collegiate track & field athlete and coach. She fell in love with surfing in 2002 when she traveled to Australia and tried standing up on a surfboard for the first time in Byron Bay. Since 2005 she is living in Itacaré and working in the surf. Originally from the landlocked prairies, Sheena understands the complexities of learning to surf with limited access to the ocean. Her passion and energy will motivate you to push past plateaus, and her knowledge about physical preparation for the surf will bring you increased confidence in any surf condition. She is currently working towards becoming a Functional Patterns Human Biomechanics Specialist to help optimize human movement and performance. Sheena will also film your daily training sessions to document your surfing progress. "If my contact lens represents You and my eye represents my eye... I've got my eye on You - all the time!"

The Surf’s Cool Home

The Surf's Cool Home is located at The Surf's Cool Headquarters, near the stunning Rio de Contas. Wake up and take a quick paddle on the calm floating waters in the morning and enjoy a spectacular river sunset in the evening. This open concept apartment has a comfy queen-sized bed with a deluxe mosquito net, ceiling fan and an ensuite bathroom on the mezzanine level, and a fully equipped kitchen, service area with a washing machine, full bathroom with hot shower, a living room that can be converted into a second bedroom (if needed), and a small balcony on the main floor level. On street parking and WIFI are also available. While the apartment is private there is a common area for everyone to come together and hang out in the backyard.

Location: The Surf's Cool Home is located in the neighbourhood of Passagem near the Rio de Contas in a tropical and calm ambience. While at the same time it is only 1 km away from the city center and about 1,8 km away from beaches like Resende and Tiririca.

Villa Estrela

Villa Estrela offers modern bungalows in Itacaré's most junglish neighborhood. Each bungalow has a fully equipped kitchen, a living room with a dining area, a spacious bathroom, a comfortable bedroom, a bed with a deluxe mosquito net, and a balcony or patio with a jungle view or garden. Air Conditioning, WiFi, Cable TV and parking are also available. The bungalows are located 50 meters from Concha Beach so a morning dip is simply a must. Enjoy your coconut in the hammock and prepare for a fantastic surf sesh, some lazy beach-hanging or a fabulous night out on the town. Or all three!

Location: Villa Estrela is parallell to Concha - the only beach in Itacaré that is wave-less. This little bay-like gem is perfect for some sunset yoga (the main sunset spot is also located here) or a SUP stroll around Concha's still waters. While located inside the tropical rainforest it is just a short walk away from either the city center or beaches like Resende and Tiririca.

We focus completely on you and achieving your surfing goals, whether it's dropping your first wave or executing an advanced maneuver, while having serious fun. With extensive knowledge in surf specific movement, we will be able to develop a personal surf program to meet your surf goals and evolve your surfing.
Our expertise in film analysis will also guarantee to improve your execution in catching and riding waves.

Open to all belt levels, ages, and affiliations, complete your surf training with world class BJJ instruction and training. Based on your current skillset and goals, Professor Curiri will structure your training accordingly to meet your needs. With over 10 years of high level martial arts training, competition, and coaching experience, Professor Curiri truly understands how to make your jiu jitsu efficient and flow. No worries about out-muscling your opponent and trying to memorize your way through a series of techniques.
Professor Curiri has a deep passion to share jiu jitsu for how it was intended to be practiced.

Ways to get to the camp

Most travelers enter Brazil via one of the following international airports:

- Rio de Janeiro (GIG)

- São Paulo (GRU)

- Salvador da Bahia (SSA)

From there, you can book a domestic flight to Ilhéus (IOS), which is the closest airport to Itacaré (around 70km north of Ilhéus). IOS receives several daily flights from all major cities in Brazil. The following airlines are currently flying into Ilhéus: Avianca, Azul, Gol, TAM, and Trip.
Travelers can also arrive in Itacaré by land. There is a paved road (BA-001) that directly links Itacaré to Ilhéus following the coastline and to Salvador (via the ferry-boat from Bom Despacho).
