CAMP CHARACTER

A sustainable surf school and meeting place in Scheveningen. A living room on the beach for surfers, nature lovers and people who like to live honestly and consciously. Surfing is nature, and playing with the elements. The wonderful environment of the beach seems obvious, but it is not. In order to let future generations also enjoy the beach, the waves and our world, The Shore goes very far in its sustainability principle. This is how we ourselves stand in life, but also how we like to do business, with and thanks to the elements.

ORGANIC

All our products are of organic origin, and mostly biodynamic. We do not use added sugars, unless you want it in your coffee. We work with local suppliers with whom we build a sustainable relationship, and do not necessarily go for the cheapest solution. Our delicious products may cost a little more, but are made with care and are certainly not too expensive.

RECYCLE

The Shore consists of recycled shipping containers that have already had a previous life in a different form and function. Most of the inventory has already had a previous life, and we actively work with education to find ways to recycle our old boards and wetsuits into new products.

ENERGY & WATER

We generate our energy through solar panels. In the summer months we even generate so much energy that we can supply it back to the grid. Our shower water is heated by the sun in solar boilers, and therefore does not cost scarce fossil fuels such as gas, or heavy terra joules of consuming electric boilers. It couldn't be simpler! We encourage people to shower briefly after surfing, because clean drinking water is unfortunately not infinite.

The dishwasher is also filled with warm water from a solar boiler.

CLEAN BEACH

Disposables? As few as possible, and if we have them, they are made of biodegradable material. We try to organize our festivals “zero waste” by handing out pocket ashtrays and using deposit cups. In addition, we do not serve products in single-use plastic and we are even the initiators of the Plastic Free Terrace. With this we want to encourage other catering establishments to no longer use single-use plastic.

Our instructors embrace the simple “Pick-up-Three” principle. Every walk on the beach back to the surf school, we pick up litter and throw it in the trash. A small effort, a big difference for the next visitor.

The Shore was the winner of the MKB Den Haag Dunea sustainability award in 2018, and winner of the Hague beach and terrace fair awards in the sustainability category in 2019 and 2020. In 2023, we won the Haagse Parel business award from the municipality of The Hague in the Exceptional contribution category.

There are warm outdoor showers (heated by solar boilers so completely eco).
We have spacious changing rooms with compartments for your belongings. We will be happy to personally guard your valuables during your surf lesson.

Surfing is all about a healthy lifestyle. At The Shore you will find a menu that is simple and pure. The dishes and drinks are prepared with great care.

Everything we serve is organic and free of refined sugars.

We take our Specialty Coffee and pancakes very seriously and are a good basis for your surfing session. When you get out of the water, a fresh smoothie is ready for you, or one of the various beers on tap or in bottles.

Surf lessons at The Shore

Would you like surfing lessons in Scheveningen? Then you’ve come to the right place at The Shore! The Shore is a place on the beach of Scheveningen where people are stimulated in their ‘pursuit of happiness’. Being a surfer is more than just playing a sport. It means living with nature, looking for new experiences and contacts, being physically and mentally healthy and thereby inspiring others.

We teach you to become a better surfer and at the same time you learn about the impact of everything we do in and around the water. We create an environment where you can develop yourself, without compromising the happiness of others and the nature around us. As a surf school, we actively promote these values. This is reflected in how we organize our lessons, the personal attention during the lessons and the awareness we create around sustainability. Our instructors are highly motivated and look beyond just performance. They ensure that you will experience the ultimate feeling of surfing!

Regardless of your age or surfing level, at The Shore we have a suitable surfing lesson for you. We offer surfing lessons for children, adults and groups. Can you surf yet? No problem! We also offer weekly surf training with our unique surf skills method.

SURF MATERIALS

Do you need to bring your own wetsuit and surfboard?

No, all materials are included in the lesson. We have wetsuits in all sizes. The surfboards have a soft top and soft fins, especially for beginners. In the early and late season we have shoes, gloves, and a cap (a kind of surf hat).

What do I need to bring?

Just a towel and swimwear. Tight swimwear is the most practical, because you will be given a wetsuit over it. If you are taking medication for something (think of exercise-induced asthma, diabetes, epilepsy, etc.) and you normally use it when exercising, bring that too. Give it to the instructor at the start.

Skate lesson

Skateboarding originated from surfing in the 1950s. On days without waves, surfers wanted to get the surf feeling, so they screwed roller skate wheels under a wooden board and used it to surf the California boulevards. The Moralesboulevard in Scheveningen is ideal for Longboarding, and we have our own skateramp for beginners. We do classes for groups and individually, where you learn to skateboard in a safe, controlled environment. Board and protection are included, so good sense and a pair of shoes are all you need!

Standup Paddle Surfing

The latest surfing craze is stand-up paddle surfing! Many people also want to go on the water when there are few waves, especially when the sun is shining! Standup – paddling is the ideal way to work on your fitness on the water! In a balanced program, step-by-step work is done on your independent skills, which include issues such as safety actions, basic posture and paddle technique.

- These lessons are given on soft inflatable boards with soft fins!

- The SUPs can of course also be rented, prices are the same as surfboards

- You can book a SUP lesson starting from 3 persons for 32,50 euros per person.

Culture

The Shore offers a stage to the work of local artists. Whether it is a handmade surfboard, the monthly changing exhibition or a new band in our concert agenda. A performance at The Shore is like a living room concert with a sea view. Our own resident DJs from Fish Tapes come every month to turn things upside down with the best records and every year we celebrate surf culture during the Scheveningen Surf Festival.

MORE INFO, HOW TO GET THERE & FAQ

The Shore is open 7 days a week from 8.30 am until after sunset. It is also possible to come surfing or take surfing lessons in the evening.   You can still book online until 17:00 for the next day, if you want to book after 17:00, please call +31649392095.   We open the third week of March and close after the autumn break.   You can always call to ask if there are waves or if you need surf advice.

We prefer to see you by public transport or by bike, but we are more accessible by car and you can park for free in the port area until 1 p.m.

Fully catered day surfing. Experience the real beach life and also get a little pampered. The fully arranged day of surfing is for the surfer to-be who wants to be pampered. The program starts in the morning with a delicious breakfast on the beach, after which the first surf lesson can begin. Then there is a delicious lunch in the afternoon, after which the second lesson starts. If you have any energy left after that time, you can still use the equipment yourself to be able to enjoy a fantastic dinner in the evening sun! All food and drinks are organic, also vegetarian and vegan available.The fully catered day of surfing can be given on any day that suits you best.

Many people simply don’t want to go home after a day of surfing, but surf again the next day! The Shore surf lesson has found something for this: the Surf and Stay! Your mini holiday at the beach of Scheveningen! Here you follow an All-in surf course and you sleep at the local hostel with a 10% discount.

This package includes:

- Surf lesson 1 on Saturday morning.

- Lunch (own expense)

- Surf lesson 2 on Saturday afternoon.

- Dinner (own expense)

- Overnight stay at Beachhostel Jorplace (10% discount)

- Surf lesson 3 on Sunday

The price of the overnight stay depends on the type of room and availability at Jorplace. For efficiency reasons, it is most convenient if you contact Jorplace directly.

SURF ACADEMY KEIKI'S - from 22,50€ / Child

Learn to surf step by step for kids up to 13 years old!
Are you not yet 13 and do you love the beach and water? Then this is for you! We will teach you to surf step by step, whereby you will be transformed into a real surfer by obtaining surfing diplomas. Of course, the lessons are given by instructors with an instructor's qualification and a lot of experience.
 
When?
The Surf Academy Keiki’s is Monday to Friday at 16:00. In the weekend, with sufficient registrations, there are two lessons per day: Saturday at 09:00 and at 13:00, Sunday at 9:00 and at 10:30. The lesson lasts 1.5 hours and will continue with 4 registrations! In the weekend, please register the day before.
 
What do you need?
Just some swimwear and a good mood! You can participate for 22.50 euros per time, you can also buy a 10-strip card where you only pay 17.95 euros per time!
