ABOUT THE SURF CAMP

Monte Clerigo Beach (our local break) is within walking distance, as is Praia da Amoreira. You can explore many other surf spots along the west and south coasts of the Algarve by car. The area features fantastic beaches with a variety of waves suited for beginners, intermediates and expert surfers. 

In high season (July and August) our focus is primarily families and young adults from the age of 25 and older. During the low season, we cater to solo travelers, couples, and groups of friends. The typical age range then is between 25 and 35. Our relaxed surf house offers dining options and access to fun bars and cafes. We can accommodate up to 25 guests, and we speak English and Dutch. 

SURFinn Algarve is one of four exceptional SURFinn locations. The other two in Portugal are situated along the coast in Costa Da Caparica and Figueira Da Foz, while a the fourth SURFinn is located in the French town of Vieux Boucau.

At SURFinn Algarve a dedicated team of surf enthusiasts manages the house, prioritizing a friendly and surfy atmosphere, cleanliness and delicious food.

ACCOMMODATION AND CATERING

We offer double and triple rooms with a private bathroom. If you travel in bigger company we have 4-to-5-person rooms with private bathroom and terrace or 4-to-6-person rooms with sea view, balcony and private bathroom. If you travel solo we can offer you the dorm with shared bathroom. 

A healthy breakfast buffet is included and you can also opt for dinner three times a week. These evenings are particularly enjoyable, with guests relaxing in the shared garden and savoring a glass of wine or a cold beer.

SURF COURSE AND ACTIVITIES

Whether you're new to surfing or looking to enhance your skills, we offer a range of lesson packages in Portugal designed to help you progress quickly. Opt for the small package (3 lessons) if you’re looking for a refresher or choose the medium package (5 lessons) if you want to spend even more time surfing. You can also select your skill level to be matched with others at a similar stage, ensuring you get the most out of your surf vacation at our surf B&B.

Our lessons are conducted by certified instructors using top-quality surf equipment. Beyond the basics, you'll gain knowledge about safety, beach conditions, currents, waves, and surf gear.

Lessons usually take place on Monte Clérigo beach, right in front of the SURFinn and within walking distance. In case of extreme surf conditions the location will shift to Arrifana Bay, a 10-minute drive from the SURFinn. You can use your own (rental) car, carpool with other guests or book a transfer for €5 per lesson in Arrifana. This can be arranged on-site and you will be picked up and dropped off at the SURFinn. 

When you sign up for surf lessons, the surf equipment (board and wetsuit) is included for both the lessons and any additional time outside of them. This means you don’t need to rent extra surf gear for the week if you're taking lessons.

If you want to practice as much as possible outside of the lessons or explore other great surf spots in the area (which we highly recommend!), you can book the separate Surf Rental. This provides access to beginner boards, wetsuits and a great selection of fun and performance boards from Softdogsurf.

This way, you can test different boards throughout the week to find the one that’s perfect for you. We’re also happy to assist you in making your choice!

If the waves aren't perfect for surfing, there’s plenty to keep you entertained at SURFinn. You can enjoy games in the garden, take a dip in the pool, spend a day at the beach or explore the local area. The host will happily give you the local tips of things to do and visit.

Feeling a bit worn out from surfing? A yoga session after an active day on the waves will help you relax and recover. The muscle soreness in your arms, legs, and back from paddling and riding the waves will quickly ease after a good stretch.

SURFinn Algarve is located on the West Coast, about a 30-minute drive from the southwestern tip of Europe. Right outside the door of our Algarve bed and breakfast is one of the best surf spots on this coastline, Monte Clerigo. Nearby, there are many more breaks to explore. Here are a few of them:

Praia Monte Clerigo

Our home spot and one of the surf spots completely exposed to all incoming swells. This means there are usually waves here, even on smaller days, making Monte Clerigo the perfect home spot for guests at the Algarve bed and breakfast! With mostly sandy bottom, aside from a few reef patches, it’s an excellent and safe place to learn surfing.

Amoreira

Within walking distance from SURFinn, Amoreira Beach features a river mouth that creates beautiful sandbanks, making for enjoyable surfing. The beach is a bit longer here, so the waves tend to break less intensely than on other beaches. It’s ideal for a surf vacation in Portugal with lessons and suitable for intermediate surfers as well.

Arrifana

About a 10-minute drive from the bed and breakfast, Arrifana is one of the most popular surf spots in the Algarve. Nestled beneath high cliffs, it often experiences less wind, making it a favored spot on breezier days. The bay is expansive with various peaks breaking on sandbanks. If the waves are particularly large, you can surf a Pointbreak from the harbor, but beware of the massive rock located right in the wave. It’s a dramatic sight, even if it might not be suitable for all surfers.

Luz

During your surf vacation in Portugal, visit this beautiful beach on the South Coast of the Algarve, which is a great option when the waves are too big on the West Coast. The waves wrap around the point, allowing for fantastic surfing on the South Coast, such as in Luz. It’s about a 30-minute drive and is recommended for all skill levels. You’ll find point, beach, and reef breaks, so there’s something for every surfer!

Seasonal conditions

Spring and fall offer larger swells, perfect for experienced surfers, though beginners can still find suitable waves for their first lessons. During summer, the conditions change: smaller swells provide ideal waves for beginners and intermediates, while the right tides and swells can deliver top-notch waves for advanced surfers.

Crowd factor and local people

During the Summer months it can get busier. But in Spring and Autmn, general tourist crowds diminish, and more core surfers hang around. If you are up for driving a bit, you can always find less crowded waves in the area.

Characterization of surroundings/region

The Algarve stretches along the entire southern coast of Portugal, but we focus mainly on the West and Southwest coasts. Our bed and breakfast in Algarve is located at Praia Monte Clerigo, a beautiful beach with great waves and a few charming restaurants. On the other side is Amoreira, another stunning bay with two beach bars. Just a 10-minute drive away is the famous beach and surf spot Arrifana, a bay nestled between high cliffs and popular for its sheltered location.

Also, within a 10-minute drive is the historic town of Aljezur, known for its beautiful architecture, numerous restaurants, a traditional market, and supermarkets. Sagres and the larger town of Lagos are about a half-hour away, making it easy to explore all the spots during your surf vacation in Portugal.

Lagos is one of the larger cities in the southwestern Algarve, known for its charming cobblestone streets, excellent restaurants, impressive marina with a stunning fort, and, above all, its beautiful beaches with rock formations such as Praia da Batata and Praia Dona Ana. During your surf vacation in Portugal, you can enjoy amazing SUP or canoe trips here, as well as book sailing excursions, go sea fishing, or search for dolphins.

Around Lagos, you'll find other lovely beaches such as Luz, Burgau, and Salema. Each of these picturesque beaches features authentic Portuguese restaurants with charcoal grills. Luz and Lagos are also worth exploring for surfing in Portugal during larger swells. The waves wrap around the point and decrease in size slightly, creating ideal conditions with often offshore winds.

Besides surfing, relaxing by the pool, and enjoying games and sports activities, it's important to savor your surroundings:

Dining by the Beach Whether you choose Monte Clerigo or Amoreira, both beaches are a short walk from SURFinn, where you can find excellent dining options. Opt for authentic Portuguese cuisine and relish fresh fish on the BBQ, or enjoy trendy (vegan) dishes at O’Sargo in Monte Clerigo.   Day Trip to the South Coast Explore the stunning south coast of Portugal during your surf vacation. Discover beautiful bays, picturesque fishing villages, the tourist hotspot Lagos, and the surf town Sagres. This area offers fantastic surfing during larger swells, but it’s also perfect for a scenic SUP tour, a mountain biking adventure, a day of shopping, or simply enjoying one of the many delightful (seafood) restaurants.   Vineyards North of Aljezur lies Portugal’s most unspoiled region, with empty beaches and, above all, abundant vineyards. Enjoy your surf vacation in Portugal by exploring the various vineyards, tasting wines at local farms, and discovering secluded beaches along the way.  

Ways to get to the camp

The bed and breakfast Algarve is located near Praia Monte Clerigo and close to Aljezur, about an hour’s drive from Faro Airport. We recommend flying into Faro Airport. Lisbon Airport is just over a 3-hour drive away, making it possible to combine your stay with a city trip to Lisbon.

TIP: Rental Car

To fully explore the vast beaches, charming villages, and vibrant cities of the Algarve, a rental car is your best option. It’s typically the quickest and most cost-effective way to travel to and from the bed and breakfast. Plus, having a car gives you the freedom to maximize your surf vacation by discovering surf spots and enjoying all the local attractions at your own pace.

PACKAGES & PRICES

Prices vary from low to mid to high season.

In the low and mid seasons, we offer flexible arrival where you can choose when to arrive and depart. However, we do have a minimum stay requirement of 3 nights. During the high season (July and August) we operate on fixed weeks that run from Saturday to Saturday.

Surf packages available: surf lessons including equipment or equipment only. Dinner package optional.
