The Family Van (France, Dax)

ABOUT THE SURF CAMP

Our surfcamp is itinerary, which means you'll be moving from one city to antoher throughout the trip and during the week. Here is the detail of what's to expect : 

Day 1: Dax to Lège Cap-Ferret (152 km)

An impromptu picnic on the beach, a walk along the coast, a stroll through the narrow streets of oyster-farming villages followed by a tasting session: welcome to the Cap-Ferret peninsula!

Day 1 (Sunday): Dax to Lège Cap-Ferret
- Collection of your van from our offices in Dax
- Visit to Cap Ferret and the oyster-farming village of L'Herbe
- Welcome restaurant & oyster tasting

Day 2: Cap-Ferret to Biscarrosse (72km)

On one side the ocean and its beach, on the other two of Europe's largest freshwater lakes surrounding a small town with its shops and restaurants: Biscarrosse is the place to be!

Day 2 (Monday): Cap-Ferret to Biscarrosse
- Morning surf lesson before hitting the road
- Walk around the Arcachon basin
- Walk on the Dune du Pilat
- Dinner at a secret spot  

Days 3 & 4: Biscarrosse to Hossegor (119km)
Hossegor, or the surfing capital of Europe! A must-visit town for its small designer boutiques, original venues, charming Basque-Landes-style houses and legendary waves.

Day 3 (Tuesday): Biscarrosse to Hossegor
- Surf lesson in Biscarrosse Lunch on the banks of the Etang de Cazaux Beach and freesurfing session at Seignosse
- Oyster and wine tasting at Hossegor lake
- Evening at Joe & Joe (open air, table football, pétanque and billiards)

Day 4 (Wednesday): Biscarrosse to Hossegor
- Morning at the Hossegor market
- Walk around the Pédebert industrial estate (free)
- Skate lessons at the Capbreton skatepark
- Surfing lessons at sunset in Capbreton

Days 5 & 6: Hossegor to Saint-Jean-de-Luz (47km)
Biarritz & the Basque Coast, Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Bayonne, Bidart... Let yourself be carried away by the sublime landscapes of the Basque country and its authentic, unspoilt places, and experience its customs, gastronomy and legends at first hand to round off your stay in style :)

Day 5 (Thursday): Hossegor to Saint-Jean-de-Luz
- Surf lesson on Santocha beach Afternoon at leisure
- Visit to Bayonne, Biarritz, Bidart & Guethary
- Freesurfing session on Lafitenia beach Sunset & dinner in a hidden restaurant (secret spot)

Day 6 (Friday): Hossegor to Saint-Jean-de-Luz
- Hike up the Rhune
- Visit to Espelette & Saint Jean de Luz Surfing lessons
- End-of-stay evening in a hidden bar (secret spot)

Day 7: Saint-Jean-de-Luz to Dax (85km)
The end! Back to Dax by 2pm. You can take advantage of the morning to stroll around Dax town centre and relax at the thermal baths on offer in the town. Hide activities

Day 7 (Saturday): Saint-Jean-de-Luz to Dax
- Freesurfing session
- 2 hours relaxation in the town's thermal baths (not included)
- Return to agency before 2pm  

Our itinerary surfcamp is made for adventure and nature lovers, people who are seeking to join a community and meeting new people :)
Usually, people joining our camps are 25-30 but we welcome any kind of soul interested in joining the camp : age does not matter !

Dogs are not allowed.

The Family Van

The founders of The Family Van (our partner), Kévin & Noémie will be on hand to supervise your surfing retreat and make sure you have a stay that lives up to the experience they've created and want to share with you!

We've imagined a trip that's all about discovering van roadtrips, electric power and travelling more frugally. We also wanted to discover the benefits of surfing, meet new people over a drink and discover a region we've fallen in love with

The Family Van invents its perfect recipe for a van holiday that's sporty, unusual and full of great encounters.

ACCOMMODATION AND CATERING

You'lle be spending the week in our fully-equiped campervan : 

- Built-in kitchen & fridge

- Fresh water/waste water tank

- Sofa & comb bed (140x190)

- Shade sail, outside table and chairs

- Clean bedding (fitted sheet...)

SURF COURSE AND ACTIVITIES

Each day, you'll have a surf lesson (1h30-2h) on the surf location of the day, that'll be provided by our partners. Thanks to the itinerary version of this surfcamp, you'll be able to surf on Europe french west coast most famous spots : Cap-Ferret, Biscarrosse Hossegor, Biarritz, Hendaye...

Free surf sessions will also be possible since we're taking surf materials with us throughout the trip.

Since our surfcamps are adressed to beginners mostly, we'll provide for this entire week, in addition to the materiel provided by each school :
- a soft surfboard (from 7' to 8'6)
- a wetsuit and a poncho 
- a bucket bag 

You also have the possibility to birng your own material if you want !

During the week, you'll have the opportunity to discover the region and its most beautifuls places thanks to Kevin and Noémie, that will be here to make you discover the region!

Neverthless, you're fully independant and free of moving since you'll have your own van.

Vanlife is about meeting new people but also go with the flow : each day is full of surprises and discoveries!

Booking conditions & vehicle insurance

The driver must be at least 19 years old The driver must have held a category B driving licence for at least 1 year. The licence must have been valid for more than 1 year without interruption Check the possibility of paying a deposit with our partner Swikly, which will serve as a guarantee for your trip Our partner Allianz insures you for the duration of your trip (from the start of your stay to the end of your stay), for traffic-related damage (excess applicable)

Pick-up time

Day of departure: you can collect your van between 9.30 a.m. and 3 p.m. on the day of departure directly from the agency

Day of return: you must return the van before 2pm on the day of return.

If you come to the agency by car, you can leave it in our secure car park for the duration of your stay.
